Contrary to what many would have you believe, taking things for granted is not a bad thing at all. It's like making a mistake: it's fair if you're told not to repeat that mistake, but he's a fool who asks you not to make mistakes at all. Taking things for granted is like investing in a lesson in the near future, and when that time comes, you'll have the first seeds of ambition planted in you. I take tech. for granted: I need at least one laptop, a good internet connection, healthy food, lots of junk food, a cushion for my ass so I can sit around all day, and so forth, to simply survive. Call me a spoilt brat, I don't give a damn. These are the things I'm going to work for, accumulate wealth for. I've been asked by so many people how all of this is going to help others. I ask you, how do you expect me to help anyone else if I need helped myself?

Carpe technica
The things we take for granted are the things we know we're taking for granted when they're no longer around. Those are the things we work for so that they're within arms' reach every time we stretch them. If you let them, technology and its spawn will make themselves indispensable in your daily life. Now, instead of berating this penetration, wouldn't it be much simpler to let them take their hold? Technology is a demonstrably good thing to have been mastered by humankind - and by technology, I mean everything from fire and the wheel to bipolar junction transistors and parallel processing - and the utilitarian value of that mastery becomes visible only when we push ourselves to make its rewards permanent.

And for that, technology's as good a place as any other of its kind to begin with. What sets it apart is that every other industry of its kind is not as accessible as technology is, and accessibility means you can begin sooner with more opportunities coming your way to make a change. In other words, taking it for granted means you're making a choice to make it one of your natural resources and use the new tools at your disposal to move on to the next challenge. Take tech. for granted. It won't let you down... until the Robot War.
